What to do if you’re not happy with your hotel room

There’s nothing more frustrating than checking into a hotel for the start of a great holiday to find that the room that you have been allocated is not up to scratch.

Some people to avoid confrontation will simple put up with this and just make a note not to stay in the hotel again but I really feel that if you are paying for a product and a certain level of services that is what you are entitled to and you should raise any issues you have to avoid ruining your holiday.

The first thing to do if there is a few minor issues, such as cleanliness issues or not enough of something in the room, is to go to reception and tell them which room you’re are in and what is needed. Be honest with them, if you are not happy in the room that you are in ask to switch rooms and state what you require in the room (as per what you paid for on booking).

If the hotel is not being particularly helpful then ask to speak to a manager and tell them, calmly but firmly that if the issues cannot be resolved and the room that you have been given is either not fit for purpose or not as it was advertised then you will be going elsewhere and not paying for the room. If the hotel tries to levy any charges on you for doing this simply explain that you would be happy to go to trading standards with your complaints or publicise on social media/trip advisor if they would rather.

Even the most difficult hotel staff won’t want the bad publicity so sometimes this can just get you the resolution you were after.

Finding accommodation that is family friendly

If you have children (especially younger children) you will always have to consider the location and accommodation that you are choosing to stay in when going away a little more than perhaps you would if you were going with friends or as a couple. There are many family friendly holiday destinations all over the world, some are designed with children very much in the forefront such as Butlins and some that just offer a little more in the way of convenience or family entertainment.

One of my main pieces of advice when booking a family holiday is to go off recommendations or reviews. A place can appear very suitable on the surface, but often the experience can be a little different. If you ave any doubts always talk to the accommodation providers first and explain your situation, ask them what they have in terms of facilities and entertainment and if there are any restrictions concerning children (such as not being allowed in the bar or restaurant after a certain time).

What to check when chosing a hotel

If you are booking a hotel to stay in for a holiday, it is essential that you read a few different reviews to get a true picture of what it is like. Ideally you want to read a number of reviews on a few different websites to be able to make a fair judgement of what the hotel is like. Beware of sites that only show good reviews (hundreds of reviews all giving 5 stars) as these may not be actual genuine reviews, and have been created by the hotel owners, staff or friends.

Don’t get too hung up on the specific issues one person has had if no one else mentions them as a problem as it may just have been a one off or a particularly picky customer. Always check to see what people have said about the cleanliness, comfort of the beds and the food that is on offer, as these things can make or break a sty in a hotel.

What does a holiday in Paris has to offer

Paris is renowned for being the city of love. Many romantic films have been set in this French city and if you are able to visit it, you will see why. Paris has a wealth of beautiful views to offer and some amazing sightseeing opportunities. Why not book a holiday to Paris and take a tour up to the top of the Effiel tower which was built in 1889 to celebrate the 100th year anniversary of the French Revolution. Whilst on holiday there, you can enjoy the vast range of local cuisine on offer and try some foods that are not often available in the UK such as frog’s legs. Travelling to France is quite straight forward from the UK; you can either opt for a short flight, a relaxing trip by boat or drive through the Euro tunnel to Calais. There is a lot of history to see whilst holidaying in France and some of the hotels have magnificent architecture.

Holidays in Kenya

Holidays in Kenya offer you one of the best African experiences. Famed for its breath taking landscapes, welcoming people and incredible wildlife, Kenya is magical. Whether you’re looking for a romantic escape, a family adventure or a wildlife filled vacation alone, you can find it in Kenya. Some of the options you have when holidaying here include:

Spending Time on the Beach

The coastline of Kenya is fringed by a vast stretch of incredible coral reef and it offers some of the best scuba diving spots in the entire globe. Most beach hotels usually have their own PADI approved schools for people who are looking to learn to dive with experts. There is a wide range of beach accommodation available to you, ranging from tiny beach hideaways, perfect for rest and relaxation, to larger family hotels with pools and lots of activities.

Finding a Vast Array of Wildlife

Holidays in Kenya also offer you the great opportunity to see a variety of wildlife including the Big 5, cheetah, hyena, jackal and plains game. There are numerous parks and conservancies to explore. In the famed Masai Mara you can experience the wildebeest migration and some of the best game viewing on the continent. There’s also the Lewa Wildlife Conservancy where you can see and learn more about conservation in action and you can even visit the Nairobi National Park, the only park that is within a city in the entire world.

Experiencing Different Cultures

A vacation in Kenya also gives you the opportunity to learn about different cultures and see how people live in different environments. You can spend time visiting villages, markets and schools to meet local people and learn more about their culture and daily life.

Visiting the Great Rift Valley

Holidays in Kenya also offer you the opportunity to visit the Rift Valley, home to numerous lakes including Lake Nakuru where thousands of flamingo congregate.

Planning Your Trip To Amsterdam

The first thing that most people think about when they say they are going to Amsterdam is the liberal attitude towards escorts and recreational pharmaceuticals. What some people seem to forget is the the beautiful cuisine, great night life and historic tradition that can often get overshadowed by its hedonistic appeal.

Amsterdam offers an abundance of historic adventures in the forms of its museums (some dedicated to lustful pursuits) that range from Van Gogh museum, to the House of Bols (who are one of the worlds leading liquor specialists) and the legendary Anne Franks house.

There is also great opportunities to sample local food such as their traditional split pea soup, waffles and much much more. If you don’t want to be adventurous there are many locations that will cater for your palette in the form of multinational fast food corporations too.

Whether you are going for a weekend break, a stag or hen do or just to look at opportunities in Europe, Amsterdam is definitely one place you should investigate into further.

How to find the perfect location for your holiday

When choosing where to go on holiday many factors come in to play. Budget, distance and weather are some of the factors that people have to consider. Whether staying close to home or choosing to travel further afield, people just want to ensure their holiday is relaxing and enjoyable. Each individual has their own idea of what their perfect holiday is, it may be skiing in the Alps or sunning yourself on the golden beaches of Miami.

If you are planning a family holiday you may want to consider entertainment that is available locally as this can make or break a holiday or maybe it’s a romantic break for two that you need.  Paris can be a very romantic place for couples to go to recuperate and enjoy the relaxed atmosphere as well as offering a great night life and fantastic food. If you live in the UK Paris can only be a few hours away and can offer a very affordable yet unforgettable holiday for all.
