Keeping your valuables safe when on holiday

If you are going away on holiday then you need to consider how you are going to look after your belongings and ensure they are safe. You should try and think about this when you are packing your case and take as few valuables as possible.

It is always nice to be able to take expensive jewellery and gadgets away with you, but are they all really necessary and how would you feel if you lost them? If you do need to take them with you then make sure that you put them somewhere safe for the trip, if flying then probably in your hand luggage (if permitted). This way you can keep an eye on them.

Once you arrive at your destination, find out if there is a safe in your room or if there is a safe you can use at reception to store any items that are really valuable. This may cost you extra and be a little inconvenient, but is usually money well spent.

Family holidays and short breaks

If you are looking for a family holiday for a weekend or week away then you may want to explore one of the companies that specialise in these sorts of UK holidays. Butlins and Pontins are two of the largest family holiday resorts and they are situated all over the UK. They have resorts in beach locations as well as in shore and there’s a wealth of activities for all the family.

You may pay a little more than a standard campsite to stay at one of these resorts but once you are there, you do not have to spend much on entertainment as it is all provided on site. With kids clubs, evening entertainment and soft play / outdoor play areas, there is something for everyone.

The accommodation varies from resort to resort so be sure to read reviews before booking as some places have better reputations than others, but if you want a family getaway that doesn’t cost the earth, then this could be for you.

Mixing with the locals on holiday

When choosing to go abroad for your holiday, you may want to take time to get to know the locals. Many countries are very happy to welcome visitors and the local people are often all too pleased to help you with whatever you need. When staying in another country you need to respect their rules and regulations and show respect to the people living there.

If you can mix with some of the local people you will have more of a chance to experience what life is actually like living there, rather than only seeing it from a tourist’s point of view. The local people will often be able to advise you better on where is great to eat and drink and places of interest to visit and indeed avoid.

It is vital to stay safe when on holiday and therefore you should never go off with someone of a group of people you do not know on your own and especially without telling someone where you are going and contacting them at regular intervals.

Mini breaks to theme parks

Years ago you only use to go to a theme park for a day trip and if you did want to stay longer then you would have to find a local hotel to book. Now a days, many theme parks offer their own accommodation with often is themed like the park.

Alton Towers for example, has a number of different themed accommodation resorts that you can stay in. This is a great way to allow you to enjoy your stay for a bit longer without having to worry about driving somewhere after our fun day out.

These types of resorts can be expensive to stay at due to the convenience of them and the fact that often they offer other entertainment and facilities such as water parks.

If you are looking to stay at a theme park resort, then why not compare prices of local hotels and see if it is worth paying the difference to stay on site.

Holidays with children

When holidaying with children you need to make a few more preparations and pre planning is definitely in order to avoid any nasty surprises. The first thing to consider is location. Ideally you want to go somewhere that is tailored towards children and can cater for their needs. If you are staying on a campsite this may mean looking for one with good facilities, play areas and close to the beach or a town offering entertainment.

Depending on how old your children are, you may look for a place that has children’s clubs onsite allowing the children to go off for a few hours participating in an activity whilst you get a bit of time to do what you wish to.

Car journeys can be hard work with children, so try and plan a few activities that they can do on the way and make sure you stop for regular breaks.

Is it worth going through a travel agent?

travel-agent

When booking a holiday you can either purchase a complete package that includes your flights, accommodation, catering and occasionally travel insurance or you can arrange all of these things separately yourself.

If you go to a travel agent they will first discuss holiday requirements with you and budget and then they will show you a few ideas before discussing current offers with you. The benefit of this is that it is hassle free, you can get everything arrange in one go by one company without any messing around, however with any sort of convenience based product you will be paying a premium for that service.

Arranging the components of the holiday yourself will probably end up saving you money but it can be quite time consuming however you will end up getting more for your money.

Now it may be that you’d still rather pay a little more to take all the stress out of planning a holiday but either way it’s worth shopping around.
