Surprising Someone with a Holiday

A holiday is a great gift to give. Can you think of anything more exciting than being whisked away on a surprise mini-break, or being treated to a romantic getaway for your birthday? If you want to surprise someone you care about with a holiday, here are some tips:

  • Choose the perfect destination. Talk to them hypothetically about places you want to go and make note of the places they mention.
  • Don’t overspend. A holiday is going to be an expensive present – even a short break can end up setting you back a lot of money. Make sure you stay on budget or you will be stressed out for the whole holiday.

•             Confide in other people. The last thing you want is for the person you are surprising to make other plans. Let other people know you are planning a holiday so that they can make up a backstory if needed.

Weekend break to London

London is the capital of England and is one of the most popular destinations for tourists when coming to the UK. London is famous for its wealth of shops, bars, restaurants and there are a huge number of sites that are well worth a visit when staying in the capital. It is very easy to fill up a weekend break away in this magnificent city.

If you have an interest in history then London has plenty on offer from the Natural History Museum to the London Dungeons. Shopping is another top for London with a wide range of high street, designer and boutique shops lining the streets.

London, as with many cities is not cheap in terms of accommodation, drinks and food but it can be done on a budget if you plan in advance. Looking on sites such as Booking or Hotels can allow you to find a nice hotel at a bargain price.

Short family breaks

If you are looking for a cheap getaway this summer then you may start by looking for short break deals. With the school summer holidays nearly upon us, you will soon see a massive spike in prices as holiday companies take advantage of the strict rules regarding taking children out of school during term time.

If you do not have to go in the school holidays, then I would definitely recommend avoiding these times. If however you are constricted to the school holidays, don’t worry, there are still some bargains to be found. You will need to spend some time trailing through discount voucher sites, independent websites and speaking to travel agents to find a holiday that is right for you and within your budget but if you are flexible on where you go then you could still bag an amazing bargain holiday that the whole family will enjoy.

Romantic breaks away

If you are looking for a getaway with your loved one, there are many holidays and trips on offer that you can chose from. It may be that your trip is limited by budget or location (due to time constraints) or maybe you have a particular place in mind that has fond memories for you.

Some hotels offer package breaks which may include access to a spa, meals and drinks or days out allowing you to save money and plan your entire trip. These packages will often costs less than if you had to pay for each of the items individually and also mean that you do not have to worry about saving up to take a lot of spending money with you.

Voucher sites such as Groupon and Living Social often have package holidays and breaks away that are advertised at a 50% reduction, making them almost impossible to beat. Always be sure to check the terms and conditions when booking a package deal as you may be restricted to times when you can use it.

Family holidays and short breaks

If you are looking for a family holiday for a weekend or week away then you may want to explore one of the companies that specialise in these sorts of UK holidays. Butlins and Pontins are two of the largest family holiday resorts and they are situated all over the UK. They have resorts in beach locations as well as in shore and there’s a wealth of activities for all the family.

You may pay a little more than a standard campsite to stay at one of these resorts but once you are there, you do not have to spend much on entertainment as it is all provided on site. With kids clubs, evening entertainment and soft play / outdoor play areas, there is something for everyone.

The accommodation varies from resort to resort so be sure to read reviews before booking as some places have better reputations than others, but if you want a family getaway that doesn’t cost the earth, then this could be for you.

Mini breaks to theme parks

Years ago you only use to go to a theme park for a day trip and if you did want to stay longer then you would have to find a local hotel to book. Now a days, many theme parks offer their own accommodation with often is themed like the park.

Alton Towers for example, has a number of different themed accommodation resorts that you can stay in. This is a great way to allow you to enjoy your stay for a bit longer without having to worry about driving somewhere after our fun day out.

These types of resorts can be expensive to stay at due to the convenience of them and the fact that often they offer other entertainment and facilities such as water parks.

If you are looking to stay at a theme park resort, then why not compare prices of local hotels and see if it is worth paying the difference to stay on site.

Star Castle Hotel, Scilly

One of the best holiday locations in the UK, the Isles of Scilly offer crystal clear waters, sandy beaches and loads of places to discover and explore. For those of us used to the orange glow of light pollution there’s the promise of a stunning view of the stars on clear nights.

The Star Castle Hotel offers one of the best places to stay on the isles. Located on the main island of St Marys, this 16th century castle has 38 rooms and a wide range of facilities. There’s plenty to see and do on St Marys, and loads of great restaurants well stocked with local seafood.

Regular boat trips make visiting the other islands easy, so you’ll find more than enough to keep you busy. Main attractions are the Abbey Gardens, lighthouse boat trips and the chance to see animals like dolphin, seals, basking sharks and occasional rare visiting birds.
